Do You ROKU?

Are you still chained to your cable provider, paying higher fees than you'd like?  We certainly were!  Our cable TV bill was more than eighty dollars every month, and most of the programs were not fit for us to watch.  There is too much foul language, violence and a lot of not-so-funny sitcoms.

Have you heard the hype about the new devices that allow you to stream TV and movies to your computer or TV - there are several.  We decided to "test drive" the ROKU device after a couple of friends told us about them.  I researched the options, and finally decided to order the ROKU from Amazon.  This is not a review of the is just my story.  We tested it for a week before realizing it would do just fine.  We found more than plenty of movies and TV shows to watch.

There are many free channels, and some like Netflix, Amazon & Hulu Plus that one needs to subscribe to in order to have access.  We already had subscriptions to two of them, so we were off to a good start.  We found we can even get one local station for news!  Okay, we are happy campers now.

Before we knew it, we were hooked on Downton Abbey, a series that airs on PBS!  We watched all four seasons and are wondering how we can manage to wait months for season five!  We have found documentaries, and old TV series we love to absorb.

The most exciting part of ditching the cable TV is getting rid of the bill that we used to get monthly!  Don't you just love new technology?  I do, especially if it will save us some money.  What's new in your household?

Hugs, GraceinAZ (Pat)

  1. I'll have to check out this device, I've never heard of it! We get just the basic cable because I rarely watch tv and hubby watches the news and sports channels. It runs less than 50 dollars a month which isn't too bad. Glad your like your new device, now I'm off to see what it's all about! Have a nice Friday and weekend!

    1. It wasn't all that long ago that we heard about it, and now we love it! Amazon also has a device and there are one or more others on the market. I did a comparison and liked the ROKU best for us. Thanks for checking in on me!

  2. I love using my ROKU device! I have had my ROKU for about 2 years, and continue to find great channels thru their Channel selection.
( right now..I'm watching the Gooseberry Patch recipe Channel. The recipe videos are great! ) =) I also like watching the Antique Roadshow on the PBS Channel. There are so many great channels with current and old shows that there is always something to watch.
For those that are new to Roku, all you need ( in addition to buying the ROKU device ) is internet service and a wireless Router.
There is not a "monthly" fee for ROKU. **Some of the channels do have a monthly fee on ROKU, but there are alot of free channels also!

  3. Thanks for adding that information, Melissa! I have just found Chef Brad on the BYU ROKU channel and love, love, love his recipes for Fusion Grain Cooking! Since I need to be on a much healthier diet for my kidney disease, his recipes seem to be perfect for me!

  4. We love Downton Abbey, too!
