Too Many Books ~ What To Do? (& Big Event Coming Soon!)

Perhaps I have mentioned this before, but HB (HoneyBunny) is a Hoarder  - uhhh...packrat.  He loves books.  He need/wants to be surrounded by books.  He reads lots of books.  He owns lots of books.  Too many books.  To be clear, I love books, too, but I can pass them on to others to enjoy, just keeping some I may want to read again sometime.

We have book shelves filled to capacity in almost every room.  We have tubs of books stored in our storage sheds (yes, plural!) and storage units we pay for!  More than the two of us together can read in what's left of our lifetimes.  More than our house can hold.

Some of the books are being sorted and given away - cautiously - a few at a time.  More are being packed away.  So, the big, huge question is, what do we do with all of  them so those TV folks don't come knocking on our door asking to film us for the next season of Hoarders, Buried Alive!  (chuckle)

I may have stumbled on the perfect solution - if we only had the room!  Look what I pinned to my Pinterest today!  I first saw this photo on My Zero Waste - a great blog you should check out!

What an imagination this guy has!  I love it and when I show it to HB I am sure he will try to figure out a way to make one!  I may have opened a can of worms here!

Also...Stay tuned...I have exciting news coming soon!  My Blogiversary is in 12 days and I am putting together a Giveaway to celebrate it!  I can hardly believe it has been a year already since Grace (me) began posting memories, stories and such!  I am so thankful to each of you for making me feel like I have accomplished something special here.  It wouldn't have come this far if you hadn't been here commenting, following, and supporting me!  You are awesome!

  1. Grace-Is that a cool idea?!?! I, too, love books and have been collecting them for years. I just recently decided I NEED to let some of them go. I will say that every book I own has been read by me (or a few by my hubby) but I have been collecting them for 35 years..so you can imagine. I found a women's center that puts them in their "store" and uses the proceeds to fund wigs for women going though chemo. It made it much easier to let them go...not ALL of them but I am down to just what will fit on our shelves- which are extensive. xo Diana

    1. Diana - Thank you for sharing your struggle with books. It is difficult to part with them, but how nice that others can enjoy them when we pass them on!

  2. Although I admit to bookshelves in every room in the house and the odd teetering stack in the corner of every room, paying for storage units is too much for me! I'm weeding mine out a bit at a time. sigh ~ Maureen

  3. Pat, That is so cool! When I first noticed the pic, I noticed the bookcases and I thought that wall was stacked stone.
I have lots of books but you guys are the winner.
Love you and hope both of you are feeling better. Ginger

  4. Oh dear, I think paying for storage units woud be my limit:) I have read hundreds of books but send them on to others except for a few I keep. Now, DISHES.....we probably shouldn't go there;):):) XO, Pinky

    1. Pinky - Haha...no, we won't mention those dishes...LOL! I think paying to store stuff we don't use is a waste, but...I lose that battle every time. Maybe one day HB will see that he can't take them with him! LOL!
