So there I was, smack in the middle of the girls department, lost and bewildered. I had set out to find a birthday present for my youngest grandchild. The problem wasn't that I couldn't find anything...no, that wasn't it. The problem was that I had no idea what she might like or what size she wears. If you read my post yesterday, you know that I have never met this little one! Oh, what to do, what to do!

Desperation was setting in fast! I did the first thing that came to my mind - I asked a total stranger, who happened to be a Mom shopping with her preschooler, what size her little girl wears and how old is she? Then I told her my story. She was very happy to help me out! I now knew that her daughter is five and small for her age, so I picked out a pretty dress one size larger. Sigh...what a relief!
After checking out at the store, I hurried home, wrapped the gift, signed a cutesy birthday card for her, and un-birthday cards for her sisters, and packaged it for mailing. Whoosh...it is on its way to my Curly, Redheaded Munchkin! I can't wait to see if she likes it.
Do you have as much fun as I do, shopping for grandkids?

I hope she loves it when she gets it. That was great advice to ask the girl and her Mom! Perfect- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDiana - I hope so, too. I got a navy blue sundress, which should look good with her hair.

I had a similar problem when my daughter adopted four kids, ranging in age from 3 to 9. My other grandsons were in their teens. In the toy department, I asked moms with kids the same age and sex of each of mine if they would let their kids help me choose. They always said yes and the kids took the 'job' very seriously.
ReplyDeleteMaureen - Oh, great idea with the kids! I bet they had a good time selecting just the right toy for you! I have asked my now 13 yr old what I should buy for the 12 yr old. She is always helpful!

Check out that hair for goodness sakes--gorgeous! And great idea to let other kids help.
ReplyDeleteGalen - Isn't she a doll? I, too, love that idea of asking kids to help!

I'm not yet a grandmother but so yearn for the day when I can be shopping for what are sure to be the most precious souls on the planet. Funny thing is, I'm NOT ready for my son to be a Dad (he's just in college right now for goodness sake!). Quite the dilemma.
ReplyDeleteKimba - Another funny thing...sometimes our kids don't have babies on our schedule...LOL! No matter when they arrive, they are more of a blessing that we can imagine! And, shopping is the best fun ever!
