Frogs on a Blog

In some circles, I have become known as Froglady. My Grandchildren use that nickname for me, I sold on eBay under that name and I sometimes use it for a signature on emails. I started collecting frogs when I was in my twenties. Not just any frog, mind you. These had to be frogs with character! I wanted cute, not ugly or full of warts. They needed their dignity; after all it isn’t easy being green!

No room was without one or more. No color was off limits. I had them on the floor, on the furniture, on shelves and on walls. I was single back then and no one but me had to see them every day! Then, one day, I changed my mind. I was finished with frogs I told myself. I am too mature for all this stuff! So, away they went. I don’t even remember what I did with all of them.

Fast forward to sixteen years ago, when HB (HoneyBunny) entered the picture & we got married. He noticed that one of my kids gave me a frog on a special occasion and he picked right up on it. There was no stopping him. It wasn’t long before I was the proud owner of frog earrings, a frog business card holder, frog planters, frog wind chimes, ceramic frogs, and so on, and so on. Now, you will find them in the bedroom, the bathroom, the living room, well…everywhere except maybe the kitchen!

I am at the point of wanting to declutter, but what to do with all of them. As I get older, I know I do not want so many dust-catchers on shelves and on walls. I want some decoration, but not to excess. So, several Kermits and other fuzzy, fluffy green critters have found new homes by way of yard sales, as did the salt and pepper shakers. It wasn’t easy, but I simplified. We ought to do that now that we are older and wiser. I am content with only a few froggy friends now. I am “hoppy!”

  1. I have a similar hobby of collecting things, but mine is pigs! I think they are awesome! your frogs made me think of "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" which was a favorite with the preschoolers

  2. I had a friend who did the same thing. She took neat pictures and made a nice book with the photos (she sent them away somewhere, and a book came back).

    :D

    Have a fun weekend!
